The police and judiciary in Germany are obliged to protect victims of domestic violence. In case of immediate danger, the police can be reached via the free emergency number 110. 

In all federal states, the police have legal possibilities to expel a violent person from the shared flat and to issue a no-entry order. This means that this person is not allowed to enter the flat for several days. True to the motto: "If you hit, you leave". In cases of domestic violence or stalking, victims can also apply to the family court for longer-term protection on the basis of the Protection against Violence Act.
In cases of suspected rape, the police always file a criminal complaint.

The association "Frauen helfen Frauen" (Women Helping Women) runs the women's shelter and the women's counselling centre. Both institutions offer anonymous protection, help and counselling in cases of domestic violence, sexual violence and threats. 

The women's shelter is open to women from the age of 18 of all nationalities - with and without children - who are affected by acute or threatening domestic violence. In the women's shelter, women find a temporary and anonymous place to live for themselves and their children, a new, safe home. They receive support, counselling and guidance to gain distance from the violence they have experienced and to plan a new future.

It is helpful if you bring a translator with you. Otherwise we will try to organise translation assistance.

The Outpatient Clinic for Victims of Violence offers people the opportunity to have injuries documented and traces secured. It serves to gather evidence at an early stage that can be used in court - even without involving the police. All information is treated confidentially. The staff members are bound by medical confidentiality. Information is also only passed on to the investigating authorities with your explicit consent.

You can contact the outpatient clinic for victims of violence when you have been a victim of violence.

Sexual violence e.g. rape is a serious physical and psychological injury. Regardless of whether you want to press charges or not: you should have a medical examination as soon as possible, even if you have no visible injuries. Please do not hesitate too long - certain traces can only be detected a few hours after the crime.
At the Women's Clinic Ulm, you can also have possible evidence of the crime secured by a free, anonymous and confidential examination around the clock. The secured traces can be kept at the university clinic for two years. If you are not sure whether you want to press charges or do not feel able to do so at the moment, you can still access the evidence later. The evidence can also be helpful for possible claims for victim compensation.
